After watching an interview of Raul Cuero, a Colombian microbiologist give his view on how to approach creativity, I had a few things that I could take away from it. I believe that combining Cuero's approach with aspects of my own in regards to creativity could help me in regards to how I approach my everyday life. In addition, it may help me to succeed in completing a project whenever I find myself out of ideas or options. I especially believe this to be true because of the fact that I have many more resources than Cuero who didn't even have access to books as a child, and he was able to overcome his difficulties to pursue a successful career.

Creativity is based on innovation, it it based on something that is not obvious. According to Cuero, creativity has nothing to do with art, or being intellectually advanced, it has to do with how you perceive nature. Ideas emerge from interaction with others, and the age of technology has hindered creativity in this way, with people spending more time indoors. He encourages young people to spend more time outdoors because it can help you draw inspiration from nature, as he states that "all ideas come from nature." Cuero learned this at an early age, when he would have no entertainment or books to read, he would often observe to nature to detect patterns in the way that organisms would operate.

The final way in which I can use one of Cuero's methods of creativity is enjoy the process of creation. Creativity comes in a step-by-step process, and you cannot plan creativity. Cuero says you have to be committed and be very focused without fear of failure if you truly want to achieve the goals you set for yourself. He emphasizes that everything is a process, and that good things take time. I can use and apply this in my everyday life, because I struggle with being patient when ever I create something. I may have several ideas and fail to focus and stick to a process, so I really value the way the he describes how to go about achieving a goal or completing a task.

Grid Art (Assignment A4) - Wu Tang Logo

For this assignment, we were asked to create a piece of art with the use of a 30 x 30 guideline, and homogenized objects to give the piece a cohesive look. To illustrate my use of the grid in a picture I combined the use of laying out 30 pieces of Corn Pops cereal on each side to give a sort of baseline or x/y axis for the piece, and the use of a digital overlay to show how my creation would fit in a computer based software. As far as inspiration would go, I drew upon and recreated the famous logo of the Wu-Tang Clan, a hip hop group with origins from Staten Island, New York. This logo has been in use for over 25 years, and has received global recognition, and is among the most famous logos still in the music industry today. After being inspired by listening to their music, I began to layout and shape these hundreds of pieces of cereal, using the grid as a guide to complete the logo. Blog Post - B5 (Music Movements)

Movements: Industrial Hip Hop/Horrorcore: Ho99o9 I chose the hip hop group Ho9909 (pronounced Horror) because they combine hip hop with a traditionally aggressive hardcore punk sound palette. I believe that their work (such as United States of Horror)  really blurs the line between genres by incorporating various elements to make their music. I consider that their work fits with electronic music because of their use of various computer-generated sounds (i.e. distorted programmed bass lines), and the use of both traditional live instruments (drums, guitar). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7saY1yWyWbc Post-Punk: IDLES I chose the British post-punk band IDLES because I had heard their song Danny Nedelko  from their 2018 album Joy as an Act of Resistance. Bluebeard's Castle (Assignment A1)

Max Jim é nez Professor Roundtree FMX 211 24 September 2018 Bluebeard’s Castle The opera I chose to watch was Bluebeard’s Castle , composed in 1918 by Béla Bartók, written by Béla Balázs and based on the French folktale “ La Barbe bleue.” As a result of a live stage performance being incredibly difficult to find, I viewed a German film version of the opera from 1963: Herzog Blaubarts Burg (Duke Bluebeard’s Castle) with English subtitles. The opera was altered from the original folktale in several ways. The opera version only contains two performing characters, Bluebeard and Judith. In addition to this, the way in which the story progresses and ultimately ends is quite different from the centuries-old folktale this opera adapted.
