FINAL - VIDEO DECONSTRUCTION - LIFE BEYOND THE STARS

Ever since I could remember, I have been fascinated with the possibility of life on planets other than Earth. This is what inspired me to choose this topic for my final video project. Throughout the video I combine the use of found footage, news reel, and special effects to make the viewer reconsider the possibility of "Life Beyond The Stars." I chose the song "Consuela" by producer ICYTWAT because his music has a ethereal, space-inspired vibe that I felt would pair very well with the visuals that I chose for the final project. I hope after viewing my short video it will spark your interest in looking to other planets and galaxies in the future. Thank You Click This Link To Watch My Video Please

Blog Post - B5 (Music Movements)

Movements: Industrial Hip Hop/Horrorcore: Ho99o9 I chose the hip hop group Ho9909 (pronounced Horror) because they combine hip hop with a traditionally aggressive hardcore punk sound palette. I believe that their work (such as United States of Horror)  really blurs the line between genres by incorporating various elements to make their music. I consider that their work fits with electronic music because of their use of various computer-generated sounds (i.e. distorted programmed bass lines), and the use of both traditional live instruments (drums, guitar). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7saY1yWyWbc Post-Punk: IDLES I chose the British post-punk band IDLES because I had heard their song Danny Nedelko  from their 2018 album Joy as an Act of Resistance. I consider that their work represents the modern take on punk music, and fits with technology because of the use spacious synth-bass sounds on the epic Colossus (from the same album). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkF_G

A6 - Performance Art

Chris Burden (Shot in the Name of Art) Blue Man Group  Pyotr Pavlensky (Sewed Mouth Closed) I chose these three performance artists because I found that to me they had several qualities in common. When you watch a performance art piece by these men, it arouses a strong first reaction in your mind, and pushes you to really question if what you are watching is truly art. I believe that the fact that their performance can bring you to question and explore their work makes what they do that much more special. For Chris Burden and Pyotr Pavlensky, I would say that technology is not an essential component to their work, because their most famous performances involve the infliction of pain on the human boy to make a point for their respective pieces. This is one area where the Blue Men Group differs from the other two, with technology being the tool that is most used for their performance art. Science and technology, the use of screens to display information to the audience, and

Assignment A5 (Xerox) - Waves

This is an an art piece I created out of photocopied images of my hand and arm. My two biggest inspirations for the piece were  The Great Wave off Kanagawa (by Katsushika Hokusai) and the movement of German Expressionism in terms of the components that make up the wave, and its dark, oppressive color palette. Drawing inspiration from a world famous woodblock print, I wanted to combine the look of something as natural as a huge tidal wave, and contrast it with the very dark angular segments of my body in order to give a different take on the classic Japanese piece of art. Stills of sets from German Expressionist movies such as  The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1919) influenced my use of very dark and jagged shapes to create "Waves" In addition to this, I added straight lines to create even more of this linear look to give a background to my piece. I did not want to rely to much on the original print, and decided to really make the shapes used to create the piece stand out

Grid Art (Assignment A4) - Wu Tang Logo

For this assignment, we were asked to create a piece of art with the use of a 30 x 30 guideline, and homogenized objects to give the piece a cohesive look. To illustrate my use of the grid in a picture I combined the use of laying out 30 pieces of Corn Pops cereal on each side to give a sort of baseline or x/y axis for the piece, and the use of a digital overlay to show how my creation would fit in a computer based software. As far as inspiration would go, I drew upon and recreated the famous logo of the Wu-Tang Clan, a hip hop group with origins from Staten Island, New York. This logo has been in use for over 25 years, and has received global recognition, and is among the most famous logos still in the music industry today. After being inspired by listening to their music, I began to layout and shape these hundreds of pieces of cereal, using the grid as a guide to complete the logo. I hope that you will enjoy this peculiar approach to grid art as much as I did making it. - Max

The Innovation and Technology of Nike’s HyperAdapt (Assignment - A3)

Max Jiménez Prof. Roundtree FMX 211 October 15, 2018 The Innovation and Technology of Nike’s HyperAdapt             Footwear has been around for centuries and is a major component of our day-to-day wear. Traditionally, shoes have been made from leather, wood or canvas, but in the 2010s, as a result of material innovations rubber, plastics, and other chemical-derived materials have been increasingly prevalent in the production of sneakers and athletic wear. In this paper I will highlight a 21st century innovation that are in the beginning stages of production, and in several years may be mass-marketed and change the way that sneakers are made and worn. This company makes up a large percentage of worldwide footwear sales and is at the forefront for innovation in terms of pioneering new technologies to be worn by the masses.             The technology that I will explain is Nike’s HyperAdapt. For a hefty retail   price of $720, you can purchase a sneaker that is a fi

Blog Post - B4 (Broadway)

Despite always hearing about famous Broadway musicals, I have never been able to really become interested in a Broadway show. Seeing that my next blog post would have to be about Broadway made me worry that I would be bored when going through the Stage Door Blog. I was surprised to see that some of the Broadway show had been adapted from or adapted into movies. I thought that it would be interesting to watch and read about the similarities, differences, and origins of some musicals. The Color Purple was originally a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel from the 80s. Having known this prior to reading through the blog, this had caught my attention. Have seen various parts of the film version on TV I had never knew that it had been adapted into a Broadway musical. I surely thought that a film that was famous for its wonderful score would have a hard time transitioning to a new medium, but The Color Purple has recently had newfound success in its revival of its Broadway run. It has won 2 Ton
