Movements:
Industrial Hip Hop/Horrorcore: Ho99o9
I chose the hip hop group Ho9909 (pronounced Horror) because they combine hip hop with a traditionally aggressive hardcore punk sound palette. I believe that their work (such as United States of Horror) really blurs the line between genres by incorporating various elements to make their music. I consider that their work fits with electronic music because of their use of various computer-generated sounds (i.e. distorted programmed bass lines), and the use of both traditional live instruments (drums, guitar).

Post-Punk: IDLES
I chose the British post-punk band IDLES because I had heard their song Danny Nedelko from their 2018 album Joy as an Act of Resistance. I consider that their work represents the modern take on punk music, and fits with technology because of the use spacious synth-bass sounds on the epic Colossus (from the same album).

Cloud Rap: Clams Casino
I chose the "Cloud rap" producer Clams Casino because I had known from previously listening to I'm God by rapper Lil B that he had sampled one of the artists we had gone over in class, Imogen Heap. "Cloud rap" fits in very well with technology and electronic produced because of its aesthetic. This type of music is sample-based and draws on other artists's electronic music to give it its spacious, ethereal feel.

Lo-fi Hip Hop: bsd.u
I chose Canadian producer bsd.u to showcase my favorite lo-fi hip hop, and because of the fact that I listen to him regularly when relaxing or studying. Similar to cloud rap, lo-fi hip hop is a sample-based genre that draws from sampling jazz, funk, and sometimes even R&B. I consider that their work fits in with technology, because with the rise of DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) many producers on sites like Bandcamp.com are producing music with downtempo beats and sample-based instrumentals.

Grime: Skepta
I chose the UK grime artist Skepta because of his wide influence on the genre and his recent collaborations with American rappers such as A$AP Rocky and Playboi Carti. Skepta has been at the forefront of the UK grime scene for over a decade with his debut studio album Greatest Hits coming out in 2007. I consider that his work (for example 2016's Konnichiwa) fits in well with electronic music because of the fact that grime is directly influenced by earlier UK music styles such as "UK Garage" and Jungle from the 1990s.
